-Room 108 episodes 1-6

Introduction

I didn’t set out to write Room 108.

This story found me through a friend—my college roommate, Timothy Balke. Over late nights and quiet conversations, Tim shared pieces of his past with me. At first, I thought he was describing fiction. The scenes were too raw, too sharp, too much like something from a movie. But they weren’t. They were his life.

Tim grew up in a motel room, learning how to survive in a place where survival itself felt like an achievement. He told me about neighbors who carried their own ghosts, about nights filled with screams and silence, and about the kind of resilience that doesn’t shout—it just endures.

Listening to him changed me. It made me realize how easy it is to overlook the quiet struggles happening all around us, and how much strength it takes to keep going when the world doesn’t seem to give you much to stand on.

I wrote Room 108 not to romanticize his story, but to honor it. To capture the weight of what he lived through and the light he somehow carried forward. This isn’t my story—it’s Tim’s. But as his friend, I felt a responsibility to share it, because stories like his deserve to be heard.

If you’ve ever felt invisible, trapped, or forgotten, I hope Room 108 reminds you that you’re not alone. That even in places where the walls close in, there’s still room for hope, for change, and for tomorrow.
