Did you know?

Biggest Bank Heist in History:

When we conjure images of legendary bank robbers, names like Bonnie and Clyde or John Dillinger

from the great deportation or maybe the Old West train bandits typically come to mind. However, the record for the largest bank heist in history belongs to a country you might not expect—Iraq.

The story behind this heist is as astonishing as it is audacious. In 2003, just days before the U.S. invasion of Iraq, a staggering $1 billion was stolen from the Central Bank of Iraq in Baghdad.

It is believed that this massive heist was orchestrated by individuals close to the then-Iraqi President, Saddam Hussein.

Reports suggest that Saddam himself ordered the theft, entrusting his son Qusay with the task.

In a meticulously planned operation, the money was loaded onto trucks and whisked away under the cover of chaos.Despite efforts by various authorities to recover the stolen funds, much of the money’s fate remains a mystery. This heist stands out in history for its sheer scale and the enigma that surrounds it. So put it this way. If the money was taken by 20 men. The dividends would be around $500,000,000 per man. Could you live on that? What’s the first thing you’d do?

  1. Makes me wonder what the thieves did with that money. I’ve been waiting for the lottery to find me but it seems to have lost my address 😆… I can think of a few ways to use it.
