“The Door to Hell“

If you won two free plane tickets, where would you go?

Two tickets, one for me and the other for Ella, my black Labrador retriever. What a joy to have her accompany me to one of the wonders of the world. It’s in Turkmenistan. They call it “The Door to Hell.” Darvaza Gas Crater. This fiery pit has been burning continuously since 1971, when Soviet geologists accidentally collapsed an underground cavern while drilling for natural gas. To prevent the spread of methane, they set it on fire—expecting it to burn out in a few days. Over 50 years later, it’s still ablaze.

🔥 Why It’s So Wild:

This thing is around 230 feet wide and 65 feet deep. A glowing inferno in the middle of the desert—especially surreal at night.

Called “The Door to Hell” because of its hellish glow and mysterious origin. No one knows exactly how it ignited, adding to its legend.

It’s not just a geological oddity—it’s a symbol of human miscalculation turned into a mesmerizing spectacle. Would you dare to stand at the edge?
