Shame is complex and is so deep rooted, we end up carrying it our entire lives. The smallest, unintentional mistake brings so much judgement and condemnation, especially when the context is not understood or known. That is why context is so important. But who cares about context. Understanding the source is crucial but working through the shame and guilt is a process. Shame comes with guilt and we can’t work with one without acknowledging the other. Guilt is another story altogether.
There is personal development no doubt but is shame a good teacher or does it just go to prove that we can be highly stupid 😁..therefore brought shame upon ourselves.
I read The Scarlet Letter in school and I loved it. I always thought the priest had something to hide and felt deeply for the protagonist. I could never understand her ostracization. Have you read The Thorn Birds?
